How to choose a dumpster size
The right dumpster comes down to two things: how much debris you have and how heavy it is. A small cleanout or single-room project usually fits comfortably in a 15-yard container, while larger renovations and whole-home cleanouts tend to need the extra room of a 20-yard.
If you're between sizes, it's often safer to go with the larger dumpster. Running out of space halfway through a project means another container — and another delivery. The calculator above uses your project type and estimated volume to help you decide.
15-yard vs 20-yard dumpsters
- 15 Yard — $375, 1–7 days, ~80–100 trash bags, 2,000 lbs included
- 20 Yard — $437, 1–7 days, ~110–130 trash bags, 4,000 lbs included
- Both include delivery, pickup, environmental fees, and prorated fuel
- Both are driveway-safe with careful placement
Why debris weight matters
Each dumpster includes a set weight allowance — 2,000 lbs for the 15-yard and 4,000 lbs for the 20-yard. Heavy materials like roofing shingles, construction debris, and dense remodeling waste add up faster than you might expect. Going over the included weight means overage charges of $42.50 per 1,000 lbs.
Some heavy materials — like concrete, bricks, rocks, soil, and masonry — require approval before they go in the dumpster. If you're working with anything heavy, call us first so we can confirm what's accepted.
